Autism Awareness is Not Enough

If anyone is wondering why I (and a lot of other people) are posting more stuff about autism lately than usual, it’s because April has been variously dubbed Autism Awareness Month and Autism Acceptance Month. Of course, the approaches taken to that vary widely between organizations with different attitudes toward autism (and it is unfortunate that the two biggest and best-known autism-related charities both suck) – but this article is one of the best things I’ve seen on the topic: “Autism Awareness is Not Enough: Here’s How to Change the World.”

The author asked a whole variety of autistic adults, parents of autistic kids, etc. what five things they thought would most help make the world a better place for people with autism. Their responses vary a lot, and are not all in agreement with each other, but it’s a very informative and thought-provoking read.
